Today along the Bow River - August 2012

Streamflow conditions in the province are generally normal to above normal at this time of year.

Changes over the past 24 hours, unless otherwise indicated.

The Bow River at Banff decreased 1 cms over the past 24 hours, and is at 69 cms.

The Bow River at Calgary increased 17 cms over the past 24 hours, and is at 177 cms.

Bow River at Banff: 69 cms (decreased from 70 cms)
Bow River at Cochrane: 169 cms (decreased from 180 cms)

Bow River at Calgary: 177 cms (increased from 160 cms)
Bow River below Carseland Dam: 164 cms (decreased from 184 cms)

- On Thursday July 27, the Bow River at Calgary decreased 60 cms, from 273 cms down to 213 cms.)

- On Friday August 03, the flow rate of the Bow River at Calgary came down to below 200 cms for the first time since early June!

Calm but chilly

A strong cold front ripped through the city mid-afternoon, with temps. dropping 10C in one hr. and wind gusts approaching 100 km/h as the front passed through. Behind it, periods of rain will prevail into tomorrow morning, but the winds will diminish overnight. Gradual clearing will take place during the day, but temps. will be lucky to rise beyond the mid-teens tomorrow – a bit chilly for mid-Aug. After another chilly night, Thur. will begin a warming trend, peaking on the weekend with temps. well up into the 20’s.
