Southern Alberta Musician Nominated For CWMA Award
The finalists for the 2012 Western Canadian Music Awards were announced on June 12.

Longview’s Jim McLennan has been nominated for Instrumental Recording of the Year with the album, “Six-String Gumbo.”

Winners will be announced at the Western Canadian Music Awards Gala on Sunday, September 29, 2012 in Regina, Saskatchewan.

A long-time resident of southern Alberta, McLennan is best-known for his profile in the world of fly fishing, where he is a respected author and instructor. But he has also been a serious musician for over 40 years. A preeminent fingerstyle player, McLennan’s playing was first recorded for American acoustic-guitar guru Stefan Grossman’s Kicking Mule Record Company in the 1970s.

“Six-String Gumbo” was recorded at Joe Cunningham’s Small Time Music studio in Pincher Creek, Alberta in 2010 and 2011.

McLennan has been performing extensively through the fall and winter in support of the CD, at venues such as Carlson’s on Macleod in High River, the Room Full of Sound concert series in Okotoks, Festival Place and the Blue Chair in Edmonton, and The Nickleodeon Folk Club in Calgary.
