Streamflow Advisory Overview for Alberta

Issued: June 26, 2012 12:30 PM

• An upper cold low is expected to influence the province today with forecast amounts of 40 mm, although local amounts up to 80 mm are possible with convective activity; 5 to 8 mm has fallen in the foothills since yesterday.

• Intense local thunderstorms across the south are expected with this system; localized overland flooding and flooding of low-lying areas is possible.

A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the Bow River and its tributaries upstream of Calgary

A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the Bow River downstream of and including the City of Calgary

High Streamflow Advisories or Flood Watches have been issued for various reaches of the Highwood River and Sheep River.

The Bow River at Calgary has decreased 28 cms over the past 24 hours.

The Bow River at Banff has decreased 25 cms over the past 24 hours.

Bow River at Banff: 251 cms (down from 276 cms)
Bow River at Calgary: 421 cms (down from 449 cms)
Bow River below Carseland Dam: 738 cms (down from 858 cms)

Elbow River below Glenmore dam: 74 cms (down from 150 cms)
Fish Creek: 9 cms (down from 12 cms)
Sheep River: 56 cms (down from 60 cms)
Highwood River near the mouth: 220 cms (down from 283 cms)

RAIN ENDS! SUN RETURNS!

Southern Alberta's rainy weather ends early Wednesday morning. After the rain ends, there will be a few more hours of cloudy weather. During the mid-day Wednesday, the sky will clear, and sunshine returns. The sun will continue to shine right into the long weekend, with only a few clouds from time to time. As of Tuesday, rainfall warnings were still in place from Okotoks to the US border, where another 30 mm of rain can be expected.
