We would certainly agree, which is why we made this short film featuring a thoughtful conversation with legendary fly fishing guide Jack Dennis about his involvement, and the efforts of late Senator Craig Thomas, American Rivers, and its partners, in designating the Upper Snake River Headwaters in Wyoming as one of the nation’s most comprehensive Wild & Scenic Rivers.
Through this film, you can experience a small taste of the beauty of the Snake near Jackson, as well as feel the joy between Jack and his grandson as they ply the currents of this beautiful stretch of water. And as he says about the experience of working on more than 400 miles of Wild & Scenic protections for the river, “It was the most satisfying thing, outside of family, that I have ever done.” Thanks, Jack.
Our goal with this film is to celebrate this important success and inspire people to protect more Wild and Scenic rivers, with an eye toward the 50th anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act in 2018. These two young lads were fishing upstream of their dad. The older one with a fly rod, the younger with a spinning rod. It was 4.0 °C at that time of the morning. Notice the mitttens. :-)
Today was cooler (seasonal) and breezy, which meant less river traffic. Despite this, there were boats on all the upper reaches, and we also had one trip to Legacy Island.

We noticed a number of drift boats today with kids along for the fly fishing adventure.
The flow rate has been steady for the past 72 hours.
The Highwood at the mouth continues to decline slowly and is now at 59 cms.

| Although the clouds were around all day, there was lots of sunshine to be had. |
We got a lot of photos today (as we do most days) and it was hard to narrow the collection down to three. As it was Saturday, we saw lots of families, both floating and fishing along the banks. In the end, we chose two photos with kids, with a fairly solid drift boat shot in the middle. Hope you enjoy them.

Kids Can Catch Trout Pond: Grand Opening - Sat July 07
Time: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
To kick off free fishing weekend and National Fishing Week, Bow Habitat Station will hold a grand opening celebration of its newest feature, the Kids Can Catch Trout Pond.
Albertans and visitors can fish without a licence in any public water body that has an open fishing season, outside of national parks.
Pancake Breakfast at 9 a.m. with activities throughout the day! Activities include:
- Trout Pond Dedication Ceremony
- Fishing
- Investigation Stations
- Discovery Centre special event pricing of $5
The Kids Can Catch Trout Pond brings angling opportunities and a love of natural places to young people living in the city. Visitors to the pond can practice catch-and-release fishing, and gain awareness and appreciation of Alberta's natural areas.
Bow Habitat Station is an interactive visitor centre that includes the Trout Pond, Discovery Centre, Sam Livingston Fish Hatchery and Pearce Estate Park Interpretive Wetland.
Kudos to the volunteers from the Calgary Hook & Hackle Club and the Calgary Women Fly Fishers Club who will be playing a big part in many of the activities at this special event.
