Engineered Wetlands Near Marshall Springs
Hosted by Wayne Meikle, Retired Fish Creek Provincial Park Planner
Engineered wetlands, or strormwater retrofit ponds, help filter out pollutants and sediment from water that enters storm drains in local neighbourhoods. These ponds are designed to decrease the environmental impact of this stormwater before it enters the creek and eventually the Bow River.
There are over ten engineered wetland sites in Fish Creek and one of the largest is near Bebo Grove beneath Evergreen. Wayne Meikle, retired Fish Creek Provincial Park Planner, consulted with The City of Calgary on developing these ponds.
This free tour is a great opportunity to see how they function and help protect the creek.
