Monsoon at Calgary International Film Festival (CIFF)

Monday Sep 22, 9:00 pm
At Globe Cinema - 18+ (no minors)

Renowned Canadian director Sturla Gunnarson reveals how India’s vast seasonal weather system shapes the lives of the country’s billion-plus inhabitants.

Filmed across all of India, he follows the monsoon’s path as it gradually engulfs every region of the country, and introduces the individuals affected by it – meteorologists, bookies, farmers, conservationists, families, and ordinary Mumbai citizens. As nature, science, humanity and wonder converge in one of the most astonishing and breathtaking landscapes on earth, Monsoon captures all the drama as it unfolds.

YASUNI: Marda Loop Justice Film Festival (Calgary) - Nov 14

There are more tree and animal species in a single hectare of Yasuni National Park in Ecuador than there are in Canada, Mexico and the U.S.A. combined.

Unfortunately, underneath that land are billions of dollars of oil reserves. which could help lift the Central American country out of poverty.

The annual Marda Loop Justice Film Festival, which starts Wednesday, Nov. 13, explores this conflict in the Canadian premiere of the doc Yasuni on Thursday, Nov. 14.
