Back Cast Flood Relief Benefit Film Night (Friday July 19, 2013) - A Look Back

I’m pleased to report that we were able to deliver cheques totalling $2,384.75 to ‘The Calgary Foundations - Flood Rebuilding Fund’.

Those funds represent the
net proceeds of my ‘Back Cast Flood Relief Benefit Film Night’ held on July 19 2013.

Film Night attendees were also generous with their donations of food items to Cardel Theatre’s bin for the Calgary Food Bank, along with cash donations of $45.00.

Special thanks to:

McLennan Fly Fishing – Jim and Lynda contributed a significant portion from the proceeds of the evening’s sale of books, photos and CDs.

Josh Noble, President, Edge Technologies Inc. – Josh, an avid fly fisher and drift boater, provided a corporate donation of $500.00.

Thank you also to so many others who contributed in various ways.

To Brian Meagher, TUC Provincial Biologist, for his presentation “Floods and Fish – Short-Term Loss, Long-Term Gain”

To Dave DePape, Program Manager - Fish and Wildlife, Prairies Area, ESRD, for his presentation “The Future of Bow River boat launches”.

To the film makers who gave us permission to screen their films:

- Catch Magazine/Todd Moen (Elk River Cutties)
- Cinema Digital/Travis Lowe (Canvasfish)
- Flyboys/Ryan Stumpe (Raising the Ghost)

To our volunteers, Darlene Klippenstein and Colleen Cochrane from the Calgary Women Fly Fishers Club and my daughters Kim, Shaunna Lee and Dione.

Back Cast Flood Relief Benefit Film Night - A Look Back

Last evening, almost exactly one month after after the start of our 2013 Flood, a friendly and generous group of fly fishers gathered to give something back to the victims of this devastating event. We'll get back to you once we've done our final tally, but for now we can report that $790 was raised from the raffle alone!
Although we screened a number of excellent fly fishing films that folks obviously enjoyed, the main attraction, for sure, was our guest speakers.

Brian Meagher, Provincial Biologist, Trout Unlimited Canada and Dave DePape, Program Manager - Fish and Wildlife, Prairies Area, ESRD, assisted by Paul Christensen, Area Fisheries Biologist, Fish and Wildlife, ESRD.

I think everyone agreed it was a great experience being able to hear directly from these professionals so soon after our catastrophic flood.

Many thanks to all three of them for taking part in our special event.
