Alberta explores making companies pay if they don’t preserve wetlands

The Alberta government is considering a wide-ranging policy for conservation offsets, starting with a test project on wetlands in the southern part of the province later this year.
The policy, which would be used as a guide for landowners, municipalities and companies, could ultimately cover air, land, water and biodiversity.
