Calgary Fish Rescue for Monday July 01, 2013
Tonight's message from Trout Unlimited Canada via Fish Tales Fly Shop

"Fish Rescue Volunteers,

For Monday July 1st we are asking that all volunteers meet at 8:15 am at the Gates to Bowness Park (8900 48 Ave. N.W.). AESRD staff will be there shortly after, but the gates will likely be locked so please be there a little early to ensure they let you in.

For all others please feel free to post this anywhere you see fit!

Thanks for your help!"

Remember to take waders, boots, hat, sun protection/sunscreen, water, lunch, sense of humor, and patience. This undertaking combines moments of chaos with lots of down time which is a great opportunity to get to know other volunteers.
Thanks to everyone who is participating in the effort!

The Calgary Foundation Flood Rebuilding Fund

A Fund to support long-term community recovery efforts in Calgary and area.

Following the devastating Southern Alberta Floods of June 2013, The Calgary Foundation established the Flood Rebuilding Fund, which supports qualified donees in long-term rebuilding and recovery efforts.

The Fund does NOT recover administrative costs or credit card transaction fees, so 100% of donations are directed toward recovery work and the next waves of need in Calgary and area - which includes the hardest hit areas of High River, Canmore, and surrounding First Nation reserves.

All donations will support charities working to rebuild lives and revitalize communities.

As a community convener and grantmaker for over 55 years, The Calgary Foundation has strong knowledge of the charitable organizations doing great work to benefit the community. The Fund will support a wide-range of needs across the charitable sector, long after the flood waters have receded.

Basic human service needs, like shelter and food programs, will receive attention but The Calgary Foundation is also aware of need to focus on rebuilding neighbourhoods and public spaces, addressing mental health concerns and bridging the gap in funding shortfalls. These are just some of the ways the Flood Rebuilding Fund can support the overwhelming needs facing our communities.

" 'Volunteers,

For Sunday, June 30 we are asking that all volunteers meet at 8:15 am at Fish Tales Fly shop on McLeod. We will be going to another location from this point, but it allows us to do some carpooling and dropping the number of vehicles we travel in.'

Brian Meagher from TUC will be at the shop to redirect volunteers to specific locations.

Remember to bring waders, boots, hat, sun protection/sunscreen, water, lunch, sense of humor, and patience. This undertaking combines moments of chaos with lots of down time which is a great opportunity to get to know other volunteers.

Thanks to everyone who is participating in the effort!"

Southern Alberta Flooding 2013 - Trout Unlimited Canada

Southern Alberta Flooding

Photos, courtesy Trout Unlimited Canada

Trout Unlimited Canada sends out it thoughts and sympathy to all those who have been affected by the recent flooding of southern Alberta and British Columbia. There has been much loss to homes, communities and infrastructure and we hope that those displaced and impacted by these recent events can soon head home to make the needed repairs and move forward.

Further we would like to let TUC members and volunteers know that in the coming weeks we will also be looking out for our local fisheries resources that we all covet and will be monitoring changes taking place in our watersheds and addressing issues with altered river access.

The rain that began last night has resulted in significant flooding over central and southern Alberta.  #yycflood #abflood

The City of Calgary is conducting the largest evacuation in its history, which we're told could affect up to 100,000 people. At the time of this writing, twenty five communities which border the Bow River and Elbow River are undergoing partial or total evacuations.

These photos were taken this evening at around 9:00 pm at Policeman’s Flats. The Bow River flow rate in Calgary at 9:00 pm was 1,255 m3/s. By comparison, the flow rate of the Bow River at Calgary during the flood of 2005 peaked at just over 800 m3/s.

Policeman's Flats is a Bow River boat launch about 8 kms downstream from Calgary.
