Streamflow Advisory Overview for Alberta

Advisories apply to streams and their tributaries unless otherwise noted.

• Above normal to much above normal temperatures are forecast for the next several days.

• Bow River upstream of Calgary is rising due to melting of mountain snowpack.

• Water levels remain high on the rivers under advisory; caution is advised when in or around these water bodies.

• This advisory is in effect for 7 days and will be updated if there is any change in conditions.

A High Streamflow Advisory has been issued for the Bow River and its tributaries upstream of the City of Calgary due to melting of mountain snowpack. The Bow River upstream of Calgary is rising in response to the increase in runoff from snowmelt and glacier melt.

A High Streamflow Advisory remains in effect for the Bow River downstream of and including the City of Calgary. Water levels are currently steady and still remain high. Streamflow conditions in the province are generally normal to above normal at this time of year.

RECORD SETTING HEAT

High temperature records were set in up to 17 communities in Alberta on Monday. While there was no record for Calgary, the temperature got up to 30.5 degrees. It hasn't been that warm since August 27, 2010, when the temperature climbed to 31.4. Another 30 degree day could be on the way Tuesday, though the atmosphere will be much more unstable. Showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop Tuesdsay afternoon. Temperatures will fall back into the twenties on Wednesday, and through the rest of the week.
