Hook & Hackle Club President Daniel Young running through a few announcements prior to the main presentation. H&H Club

Calgary Hook and Hackle Club Meeting - Jan 28

The Club hosted an excellent presentation by Craig Copeland, Provincial Fish Culture Manager (ESRD).

Craig covered a lot of ground in a very interesting manner.

Essentially providing a look at the past, the present and the future of fish culture in Alberta.

Thanks to H & H Club volunteer Les Stastook for organizing this event.

Calgary Hook & Hackle Club Annual Auction - April 23

Photo collage, © Bow River Shuttles

This is your invitation to come out to this special event. You don't have to be a club member to attend.

It's a fun event, supporting a great club, and you will have the opportunity to bid on many items and trips.

In addition to items donated by club members, you will be able to bid on gear donated by local fly shops, fishing retailers and other fly fishing related businesses.

In addition to fly fishing items, there will also be spinning gear, ice fishing and this year even some offshore gear (salmon rods/reels, downrigger etc.)

Also under the auctioneer's gavel are casting lessons, Bow River drift boat float trips, plus a number of walk & wade trips to the Bow River, Elbow River, Sheep River, North Raven River, Upper Oldman and others

Why support the club and this event?

Club members provide much sought after boxes of flies for fundraisers, such as TUC, Casting for Life and others.

The club promotes fly tying for both adults and youth by providing volunteer tyers for local fly fishing shows and outdoor trade shows.

It also provides club members with lessons in fly tying.

And that's in addition to providing its members with a year round list of events and activities dedicated to fly fishing and fly tying.

Mike Corrigan at Calgary Hook & Hackle Club

Photo, © Bow River Shuttles
At the Club's most recent meeting, club members enjoyed an excellent tour of fly fishing in New Zealand.

Mike Corrigan spent significant time there on each of his trips, in 2010, 2013 and 2014.

His presentation was broken up into a number of segments, including trip and equipment planning, getting there, what to expect when you got there, many awesome landscape and river images and of course, some excellent 'fish porn'.

It was a great primer for anyone planning such a trip. And a very enjoyable armchair trip for the rest of us.

Live auction goodies

Live auction about to begin

This year's auction event at the Calgary Hook and Hackle Club was the most successful in the history of the club. The largest turnout ever - more than 100 bidders.

The live auction of the Trips/Floats/Lessons alone generated more than $3,800. And that was just the beginning. Other live auction items, along with the bucket draws and silent auction pulled in a record amount of revenue for the club.

Kudos to the organizers for doing a great job and thanks to all of the generous bidders and buyers.
