Announcement: Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team's newest members

The Innovative Fly Fisher Forum and Fly Fishing Canada are proud to announce the names of the following youths that have qualified and been invited to join the 2014 Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team. The selection process was based on their individual performances at the 2013 B.C. Provincial Youth Fly Fishing Championships, and recommendations of the attending coaching staff.

Without any further ado, here is the roster for next year's West Coast Division of the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team:

1. Max Cohen
2. Noah Kelly
3. Evan Paterson
4. Tyler Wilkinson
5. Carlos Romero
6. Mattia Mangione
7. Matthew Nielsen
8. Travis Dougall
9. Austyn Briggs
10. Curtis Kehler
11. Cody Wolfe

The following individuals have also qualified for a spot on the West Coast Division of the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team, but unfortunately will have to retire from the Youth Team come January 1, 2013, at which point they will exceed the maximum age limit for the 2014 calendar year:

12. Jordan Vivieros
13. Doug Thorpe
14. Matthew Morris

It should also be mentioned that Alex Baumiester of Hudson Heights, Quebec, has qualified for a spot on the Eastern Division of the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team, with his 2nd place finish at the 2013 B.C. Provincial Youth Fly Fishing Championships.

These youths are incredibly talented fly fishers and will have many challenges and exciting opportunities ahead of them. They will play an important role in the future of competitive fly fishing within our region, and help us to carry on Fly Fishing Canada's rich legacy of producing world-class competitive fly fisher at both the junior and senior levels.

Based on evaluations and performances at upcoming training camps, clinics, local and regional competitions, several of these youths will have their names submitted to Fly Fishing Canada's board of directors for the selection process for picking the members of the 2014 National Teams that will be competing at the 2014 North America Loch-Style Fly Fishing Championships, the 2014 America Cup International Fly Fishing Tournament in Vail, Colorado, as well as the 2015 Youth World Fly Fishing Championships in Vail, Colorado.

On behalf of the entire coaching staff and members of this forum, I'd just like to say that we are extremely proud and honoured to have the opportunity to work with and mentor all of these fine young gentlemen, and to help them to realize their full potential!

Sincerely,
Todd Oishi
Head Coach of the West Coast Division of the Canadian Youth National Fly Fishing Team
