Legacy Island gets a facelift

Back in early May, after completing our shuttles to McKinnon Flats, we decided to check out the ice conditions at Legacy Island.

We arrived just as the TUC-Bow River Chapter volunteers were finishing up their annual cleanup.

A total of six volunteers answered the call to assist TUC Provincial Biologist Brian Meagher (wearing the orange cap).

They had also brought in some heavy equipment to deal with the build up of silt in the boat ramp. After almost getting stuck, they gave up. The next day, they used a tracked backhoe to get the job done.

Any update on how this looks post runoff (though it's probably still under water), as well as what the launch at Fish Creek looks like...and the road at Mac!?

Thanks!

Thanks for your comments.

Sorry for this delay in replying. We experienced 11 days of computer problems just after we posted about Legacy. And regrettably, our reply to you got lost on the back burner.

Fish Creek boat launch is just fine. The switchback road down to Mac has experienced erosion damage again, but it was drivable when we were last there.

Unfortunately, we learned yesterday from Brian Meagher (TUC) that the runoff activity over the past few weeks has resulted in blocked access to Legacy. Trees across the access road and a tree in the boat ramp, as well as a whole lot of new silt.
