Chamber puts mental health in spotlight

"Mental illness and depression is projected to be the No. 1 ailment affecting the global population by the year 2020. If you look at it from a business perspective, it is the No. 1 cost of prescription drugs for employers, it is the No. 1 cause of absenteeism and sick days," says chamber of commerce president Adam Legge.

Chamber puts mental health in spotlight

Growing problem needs greater awareness

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce is urging the local business community to do more to erase the stigma of mental illness in the workplace.

In what is a first for the organization, the chamber has published a report examining the prevalence and extent of workplace mental health concerns in Canada, and compiled a list of resources that Calgary employers can turn to for help.
