The Watershed

The Watershed is a collaborative newsprint publication between The Usual and Patagonia to celebrate the joy of simple fly fishing, healthy rivers, dam busting, and sustainably sourced food. 

The Watershed features Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard, Patagonia fly fishing ambassador April Vokey, DamNation producer Matt Stoecker, director Travis Rummel, 1% for the Planet co-founder Craig Mathews, dam buster Katie Lee. With contributions by Malcolm Johnson, Jeremy Koreski, Paul Greenberg, Jeanine Pesce, Keith Malloy, Trevor Gordon, Stefan Knecht, Jim Mangan, and others.

Have a look at the feature article “Salmon Fishing in the Garden”. This is a magazine about fishing the mid-west. But in this case, a group of women from the mid-west have been ‘sneaking’ away to fish the Garden River in Ontario.

Also enjoyed the photo essay “Coming Home to the Pere Marquette”. Lot of other good reading to be found in this issue of The Tight Loop.

Lots of good reading and a number of great photo essays in this 284 page issue of the The Contemporary Sportsman

Believe it or not, we’d suggest that you start with the Letter from the publisher “A Positive Attitude Goes a Long Way”. It’s one of the best reads we’ve had in some time.

“Too Much of a Good Thing” is a much more serious article. Reading about the reasons behind the death of Grand Lakes St Marys in 2009, reminds us of what could happen, or may already be happening, in southern Alberta. Street runoff, untreated, directly into the Elbow and Bow River via storm sewers, E-coli in some irrigation canals, still no regulations regarding housing construction on flood plains.

For something much more upbeat, check out the feature article “Through a Guide’s Eyes”.
