Casting for Life , a non-profit society formed in 1997, has introduced women from all over Alberta and some from other provinces in Canada to the sport of fly fishing.

Fly fishing is an excellent activity for women who have had breast cancer as the motion of casting the fly exercises the arm, thereby providing means of gradual muscle strengthening and lymph fluid movement.


CfL takes interested women on a three day weekend retreat in which they are taught the art of fly fishing, fly tying and also exposed to other activities beneficial in being on the road to regaining enjoyment of life again.

A volunteer "fishing buddy" is introduced to each participant for an afternoon of fishing on the Saturday.

The retreat fees are subsidized by fund raising activity that CfL does throughout the year so the cost to the participant is minimal.
