Spencer West completes gruelling journey to raise funds for clean water

CALGARY — After 11 gruelling days and 300 kilometres of unforgiving Alberta highway, a jubilant but exhausted Spencer West crossed the finish line on his hands Thursday amid the cheers of Calgary schoolchildren.

Legless adventurer raising funds for Free The Children

Spencer West has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and will be walking and wheeling from Edmonton to Calgary May 6-16, 2013. West will do the walk on his hands and in his wheelchair, with the goal of raising $150,000 for the Free The Children’s Water Initiative. West lost both of his legs at the age of five as a result of a genetic disorder.
