Today along the Bow River - January 2013

After a few chinook-like days, today felt like a bit of a deep freeze.

Light snow most of the day, high of only -11 °C, wind avg 15 max 37.

Fortunately, it's warming right up again as we prepare for this weekend's Western Canadian Fly Fishing Exposition. See David Spence's forecast below.

Stopped to take a few shots of Calgary's 'Peace Bridge' this morning.  The Bow River is frozen solid around the bridge.  A bit of open water is visible downstream on river right.

Warming up!

Milder Pacific air displaces the arctic outbreak in southern Alberta, and temperatures over the next few days will be near or slightly above the long term average. The wind will be brisk, with gusts to 50 kilometres per hour. The relatively warmer air could stick around for a week. A disturbance will bring the chance of flurries on Saturday.

Wednesday night: Clearing, temperature rising to 0 by sunrise
Thursday: Partly cloudy wind west 30g50, high 2
Friday: Mainly sunny, high 3
Saturday: Cloudy periods, chance of flurries, high -1
Sunday: Mainly sunny, high -2
Monday: Sunny, high -3
