46 per cent of Albertans will be directly or indirectly affected by depression.

Mental Illness Awareness Week continues across the country, with many more stories related to the ongoing problem of the stigma associated with mental health issues appearing in the media.

The business community is also stepping forward, outlining not only the costs to business associated with mental illness , but also the problem of stigma keeping employees from seeking help.

Today is also National Depression Screening Day. You can go to www.test4depression.com and complete the depression screening tool. Sent it to friends, colleagues and your HR department. If it suggests you see a counsellor, please go. If it doesn’t, look around at three of your colleagues and support the two who you hope will go.
